African Studies Workshop (ASW)
The African Studies Workshop at Rice University is a key component of one the only multi-institutional academic networks for African Studies in the United States, the Houston Area African Studies Group. HAASG involves participation of faculty and students from the major universities in Houston as well as broader community participation. As well as making links across institutions, the ASW is interdisciplinary across Rice University and provides a forum for developing research interests in Africa. Each year the ASW and HAASG coordinators develop a program of activities that include individual research seminars, thematic seminar series, mini-conferences and workshops, as well as outreach community programs. The ASW is actively seeking to enhance the profile of African studies at Rice and is open to the opportunities provided by the presence of external faculty and post-doctoral fellows at the Humanities Research Center.
